Avene sensitive skin sunscreens

Avene sunscreen review

I’ve decided to do a review about all avene sunscreens that I’ve tried, including all cream and fluid versions for the face and the avenen sunscreen milk for the body.

To make it clear, the avene sunscreen that I’ve used has European formula, so it could differ from one country to another so it will be better to check the ingredients of avene sunscreens on your country.

A general opinion about Avene sunscreens formula

All Avene chemical sunscreen comes with 4 new generation chemical filters (at least in 2019). The filters are Tinosorb M, Tinosorb S, Uvasorb HEB and Avobenzone (the last one it’s not new but today it still working well).

These filters have been show to be one of today best filters, none of them increase free radicals on the skin neither are absorbed.

They provide a very high UVA protection, I don’t know the exactly PPD of the formula since Avene does not provide it, but it should be high due to use of these filters.

All versions are not comedogenic, so they should not cause acne problems to anyone.

The rest of the ingredients are completely fine, since all version include antioxidants and other emollients and humectants to keep skin hydrated, furthermore they don’t have ethanol or other types of bad alcohols.

For me these are one of the best sunscreens that you can buy today if you really care about sun care.

Avene sunscreen cream

Avene cream sunscreen

This sunscreen comes in 3 versions all formulation are almost identical, there is a version with fragrance and other that does not have it, while the other version offers a colored cream with fragrance thanks to iron oxides.

  • Odor: 5/5, the fragrance version smells like orange and the non-perfumed version does not smell to nothing.
  • Texture: It spreads easily on the skin and is not as liquid as the majority of sunscreen, it’s absorption is neither fast nor slow for not having a liquid texture so I rate it with a 3.5/5.
  • Whitecast: 2/5, it leaves a strong whitecast when you’re using the recommended amount due to its high concentration of tinosorb M (One of the best sunscreens filters)
  • Appearance: 3/5, once it is absorbed I personally does not noticed the feel of it into my skin, it has a matte texture but it can leave a shiny texture if your skin is not dry. It’s hard to remove with a cleanser for me so I have to wash my face twice.

Avene sunscreen fluid

Avene sunscreen fluid

This sunscreen also comes in 3 versions all formulation are almost identical, there is a version with fragrance and other that does not have it, while the other version offers a colored cream with fragrance thanks to iron oxides too.

  • Odor: 5/5, The fragrance version smells like orange and the non-perfumed version does not smell to nothing.
  • Texture: It spreads easily on the skin and is not as liquid as the majority of sunscreen, it’s absorption is a bit faster than cream version, so I rate it with a 3.75/5.
  • Whitecast: 2/5, it also leaves a strong whitecast when you’re using the recommended amount due to its high concentration of tinosorb M (One of the best sunscreens filters)
  • Appearance: 3.5/5, once it is absorbed I personally does not noticed the feel of it into my skin, it has a matte texture suitable for all skins types, but it may lack the neccesary amount of hydration for those who have dry skin. It’s also hard to remove with a cleanser for me so I have to wash my face twice

Avene cleanance sunscreen

This one comes in just a single version (with fragrance), and it’s made for those who have acne prone due to its ability to reduce skin sebum production.

  • Odor: 4/5, it has a pleasant odor that smells like orange, but it will be great if the offered a non-perfumed version.
  • Texture: It spreads easily on the skin and is its rough compared to other sunscreens, it’s absorption is neither fast nor slow for not having a liquid texture so I rate it with a 3.5/5.
  • Whitecast: 2/5, it leaves a strong whitecast when you’re using the recommended amount due to its high concentration of tinosorb M (One of the best sunscreens filters)
  • Appearance: 4/5, once it is absorbed it will leave your face so matte, for me is the best product for minifying sebum production, so i don’t recommend it to people with dry or normal skin since it will leave it very matte, it will be one of the best in appearance for those with oily and acne prone skin. It’s hard to remove with a cleanser for me so I have to wash my face twice too.

Avene sunscreen milk or sunscreen for children

Avene milk sunscreen

Both have similar formulas but I’ve personally used avene sunscreen milk, so I will talk about both.

This sunscreen comes in an unique version with fragrance and it’s made to be applied on the body.

  • Odor: 4/5, it has a pleasant odor that smells like orange, but it will be great if the offered a non-perfumed version.
  • Texture: 4.5/5, It spreads easily on the skin with a liquid texture, it’s absorption is fast for being a body sunscreen.
  • Whitecast: 3.5/5, it leaves less whitecast than face version but it still noticeable.
  • Appearance: 4.5/5, once it is absorbed you won’t feel you have it putted.

Which Avene sunscreen you should use

It will depend on your skin type or if you are prone to breakouts.

  • Dry skin: Avene sunscreen cream.
  • Oily skin: Avene sunscreen fluid.
  • Acne prone skin: Avene cleanance sunscreen.
  • Normal to combination skin: You can opt for cream version if your skin tends more to dry and for fluid is your skin tends more to oily, I’ve found both two formulas hydrating (cream version more) so if your skin is not dry at all it could leave your skin a bit shiny.

All avene sunscreens leave a noticeable whitecast, so if your skin is not light you should opt for the avene sunscreen tinted versions.
